Underwater Diver Positioning System (PBS System)

This system represents a comprehensive technological solution for monitoring, recording, and analyzing dives by professional divers, combining specialized hardware with software for managing and visualizing information. The implementation of positioning technologies, both on the surface and potentially underwater, is key to providing a complete view of the diver’s operation.

Main Components:

1. Attachable Underwater Measuring Unit:

  • Depth Sensor (Hydrostatic Pressure): Uses a calibrated pressure transducer to measure the pressure of the surrounding water, which directly correlates to diving depth. Sensor accuracy is crucial for dive safety and analysis.
  • Temperature Sensor: Uses a thermistor or thermocouple to measure the temperature of the water. This information is relevant to the diver’s physiology and environmental conditions.
  • Underwater Positioning System: Subacuático:
      • GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver with surface capability: When the diver is on the surface, the system uses satellite signals (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) to determine their geographic position.
      • Underwater Acoustic Positioning System (optional): For underwater tracking, where GNSS signals do not penetrate, an acoustic system could be integrated that uses transducers and trilateration algorithms to estimate the diver’s position with respect to a known base.
  • Processing and Storage Unit: Microcontroller or processor that manages the acquisition of data from the sensors, processes them and stores them locally.
  • Wireless Communication Module:
  • bluetooth or BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy): For short-range communication with the mobile application on the surface.
Optionally, an underwater acoustic communication system: To transmit data to the surface in real time, although this is technologically more complex.
  • Power Source: Battery with sufficient autonomy for the typical duration of a dive, with an efficient energy management system.
  • Robust and Watertight Housing: Designed to resist water pressure at the maximum operating depth and protect electronic components from water and other elements.

2. Mobile Application for Terrain:

  • Diver and Supervisor Registration: Interface to authenticate and record the identity of the participants in the dive.
  • Reception and Display of Data in Real Time (if the system allows it): Shows the depth, temperature and position of the diver (when on the surface or through acoustic communication).
  • Data Synchronization: Allows the data recorded by the device attached to the diver to be transferred to the web platform through a wireless connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).

3. Web Interface for Management and Reports:

  • Centralized Database: Stores all information collected from dives, including depth data, temperature, position, diver and supervisor identification, and time stamps.
  • Data Viewing: Allows authorized users to view dive trajectories on a map, as well as graphs of depth and temperature versus time.
  • Report Generation: Facilitates the creation of personalized reports on dives, including bottom time statistics, maximum depth, temperature variations, and compliance with safety protocols.
  • User and Permissions Management: Control access to information and functionalities of the web platform according to the roles of the users (supervisors, administrators, etc.).
